RMHBC is embarking on a bold new chapter in order to serve the growing communities in BC and the Yukon: the Ronald McDonald Willow House. This new home-away-from-home will offer 75 additional new long-stay suites, including studios, one- and two-bedroom homes.

Details

Willow House is thoughtfully designed to foster a deep sense community and connection. The lower levels serve as vibrant hubs of family life, featuring a variety of communal spaces – fully equipped kitchens, warm dining areas, cozy living rooms, cheerful play spaces, and peaceful healing rooms – all intended to support families during challenging times.

Complementing these indoor areas are beautifully landscaped outdoor decks for dining, play, healing, and gathering. These open-air spaces create a vital connection to nature and offer families a restorative environment to come together, reflect, and recharge.

The Willow House is convenient to both the Women’s & Children’s Hospital and the existing RMHBC House, both of which are approximately 5 minutes walk to the north of the proposed location. The site is considerably smaller than that of the Heather House; this combined with more diverse and larger unit typologies will require a much denser form of development in order to achieve the required number of units.

Built with mass timber—a renewable, carbon-sequestering material—the House will stand as a beacon of Canada’s leadership in low-carbon, resilient architecture. Efficient prefabrication, seismic safety, and energy performance will ensure Willow House is future-ready, built to serve families for generations.
